A rare early example of an organ built by J E Dodd showing his developing symphonic style and case design, the latter including two slender three-pipe towers and three flats, with carved filigre details. The original tonal scheme, pipework, windchests and case survive intact, although the console and mechanism were altered in 1975. The pipe organ built in 1868 by George Fincham, of Richmond, for Christ Church Anglican Church, Warrnambool was the earliest known pipe organ in western Victoria, west of Ballarat and Geelong. It was moved to the Congregational Church, Warrnambool in 1891 and to its present location in 1940. The instrument is significant as the second earliest Fincham instrument to survive essentially intact.
